The Temptation to Just Do Your Job

In a world of unlimited choices and endless noise, it’s tempting to take the quiet route:
Just do your job.
Follow the process.
Keep your head down.
Wait for someone else to lead, to care, to take the risk.

We tell ourselves we’re being efficient, responsible, professional.
But sometimes, that’s just a mask for playing small.

The truth?
Every task—no matter how routine—is an invitation.
An invitation to bring curiosity instead of compliance.
To show up with heart instead of hiding behind “just doing my job.”
To choose ownership over obligation.

Because the workplace (and the world) doesn’t need more rule-followers.
It needs more humans willing to lead from wherever they stand.

So this week, a gentle question:
Where are you settling for doing your job when you’re capable of making a difference?
